A woman thought to be the oldest person to have ever lived at 128 has died in her home country of Russia. Nanu Shaova’s death, in Russia’s republic of Kabardino-Balkaria, was reported on Monday. A tribute from officials in the district she lived said: “Nanu Shaova, a centenarian russian woman log the village of Zayukovo, Kabardino-Balkaria’s Baksan district, and Russia’s oldest woman, according to the Russia Book of Records, has died at the age of 128.
She would have turned 129 in May. The administration of the Baksan district offers its most sincere condolences to her family. She had been awarded the Russia records title in 2017. Between 1890 and her death she lived through the 1905 Russian Revolution as well as subsequent civil wars, as well as both World Wars.
As well as this she will have witnessed the entire span of the Soviet Union, which existed from 1922 to 1991. Her age means she surpassed the previous person believed to be the oldest ever, French woman Jeanne Calment who lived to be 122. Ms Calment’s has been some disputed due to researchers claiming her daughter actually assumed her identity after her death for tax reasons, CBS reported. However, she did hold the Guinness World Record for her age. Masazo Nonaka, the former oldest man in the world, died days before Ms Shaova aged 113. He passed away in his home in Northern Japan on Sunday.
